How to Install Lakka OS and Play Classic Video Games on Windows PC

Want to play your favorite childhood game on your Windows PC? Many of you’ve grown up playing classic video games, possibly sometimes you miss them and wish to play again. But, they are for a specific type of system that isn’t available in this era. Here is a way “Lakka OS” that turn back the clock and let you enjoy that moment once again. You just require a few things, a spare system, a USB flash drive of a minimum 512 MB capacity, a USB game controller, and a good internet connection to do so.

Here is how to install Lakka OS and play classic video games on Windows PC

Download Lakka

First, you need to download the Lakka OS file. There is a separate file for 32-bit and 64-bit operating system.  Select and download the correct file that your CPU supports. Download links for both types of CPU architecture are given here, check your system information and click the right link.

For 32-bit: click “le.builds.lakka.tv/Generic.i386/Lakka-Generic.i386-2.0.img.gz”.

For 64-bit: click “le.builds.lakka.tv/Generic.x86_64/Lakka-Generic.x86_64-2.0.img.gz”.

Create Lakka Installer

After downloading the Lakka OS file for your system. Next, you have to create Lakka installer drive through which you can install Lakka OS and Play classic video games on your PC. Here is how to create the installer drive.

1.    Visit “sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager”, and download the application ‘Win32 Disk Imager’.

2.    Install and open the app.

3.    Go to the Image File section and click on the blue color folder icon.

4.    Now, browse and select the Lakka file that you’ve downloaded.

5.    Open the dropdown menu of Device section.

6.    Select your USB flash drive.

7.    Then hit the ‘Write’ button.

Note: This will erase all the data stored in the flash drive.

8.    Now, wait for the writing process to get complete.

9.    Remove the drive when it finishes.

Install Lakka OS on your Spare computer

Now Lakka installer is ready to use, and you can install it on your spare PC. The reason for using a spare computer is that you can enjoy your favorite game without disturbing your main system. Here is how to install Lakka OS.

1.    Connect the Lakka installer USB drive to the PC.

2.    Turn on the PC in which you want to install Lakka.

3.    Enter into the BIOS menu.

4.    When you’re on the bootloader screen, type in ‘boot:’ and then type ‘installer.’

5.    And press ‘Enter.’

6.    Click ‘OK’ on the warning window. After clicking it, a menu appears with the several installations options.

7.    Choose ‘Quick Install OpenELEC.tv’.

8.    Click ‘OK.’

9.    Now, the hard drive selection window should appear. Choose the hard drive in which you want to install Lakka OS.

10.    Now, wait for the operating system to install properly in your computer.

11.    Click ‘Reboot’ when the process end.

12.    Eject the USB flash drive.

Now, your spare PC will boot in Lakka OS and you can play your favorite classic games whenever you want.

Add your favorite play game to your PC

1.    Make sure your console PC and main system are connected to the same internet connection.

2.    Go to the ‘Service’ section under the Lakka’s settings.

3.    Click the switch of ‘SAMBA Enable’ and turn it on.

4.    Now, move on to your main system.

5.    Click the ‘Network’ icon.

6.    Find Lakka in the list appear and double click on it.

7.    Now, copy the game’s files in the ROMs folder that you want to play.

8.    Once you complete adding the game, you’ll be able to access them on your computer.

9.    Move to your console PC, and open the final tab from Lakka file interface by using the ‘+’ button.

10.    Click on ‘Scan This Directory.’

Once the scanning completes, you’ll see a new tab on the Lakka’s screen. Open the tab, and live the moments of your childhood once again.
